Virginia Nelson Blog Tour

When two hidden worlds collide near modern day Lake Michigan, Jennifer, a young Native American, is confronted with the reality, not everything is as it seems and things do go bump in the night. The questions she has long since asked are answered in this epic tale of self discovery when she meets Gabriel, the director of Guardians Incorporated.
Born in New Tuat, Netchkhet, now known as Gabriel came to Earth some five thousand years ago to protect the human race.
Disillusioned by an unfulfilled prophecy, he has become cold and distant – even from those of his kind. He secretly waits for his enemy to take his head so he may leave this world for good.
Can a tiny Selkie melt his hardened heart and restore his faith in a power far greater than himself?
When history repeats itself, can he save her from death’s embrace or will they be robbed of a future again?

Chapter 5

(Setting - making her escape from Gabriel’s penetrating eyes, Jennifer is standing at the bar when she feels something on her neck.)

She was warmed by the drink, then instantly chilled to her bone when she felt a breathe of air on her neck.
A deep voice whispered, “You smell delicious, good enough to eat.”
She turned to find the dark haired stranger leaning against her, his mouth upon her neck. Not knowing what to do, she took both hands and pushed against his chest as hard as she could, yelling, “Get the fuck away from me!”
Marching right past him she headed back to the billiard room. She stomped up to Raphael, grabbed hold of his hand, pulling him into the other room.
“Ah… Ah… Jennifer, where are we going?”
Looking around, she realized she had drug Raphael to the one room, now empty of furniture, set aside for dancing. They were standing in the center of the room with couples dancing all around them. She reached up and put both of her hands around Raphael’s neck and demanded, “Dance with me.”
Puzzled as he must have been, he placed his hands on the small of her back and began swaying with her to the music. She laid her head against his chest. God, it felt good being so close to him–safe.
“You know all you had to do was ask.  I’d never turn down a lady in distress. I’m flattered but curious as to what brought all this on?”
“I guess I’m just over reacting, but there was a guy in there…” She motioned with her head towards the other room. “...who was giving me the creeps. Evidently, he was staring at me while I was playing backgammon with Alice; well at least that’s what Marie said.”
“Jennifer, I’m sure you are use to having men stare at you. You are a beautiful woman. I believe I told you earlier you look enchantingly beautiful tonight.”
She blushed. Raphael could charm anyone.
“It wasn’t just that he was staring at me. I left the room and went to get a drink and the next thing I knew he was leaning into me. He had me pinned against the bar. Lord, I swear he was sniffing my hair. I don’t know if he’s drunk, high or what but he really scared the living daylights out of me.”
“Oh I see… and now you want the security guard and all this time I thought it was my charm that held you captive? I thought maybe you missed me… So what did this would be stalker look like?”
“Yes, no, hell I don’t know, all I could think of was finding you.”
“Jennifer, what did he look like, I’ll go find him and have a few words with him. If he’s drunk or on drugs, I’ll escort him out of here. I can’t have one of Alice’s guests being all upset. Now can I?”
Racing through her memory she tried to picture him in her mind. She couldn’t tell Raphael that he was a delectable yet scary looking hunk with the most intriguing eyes she had ever seen, could she?
“He’s dark haired, yeah black hair, really tall, taller than you, oh yeah, and he’s wearing a black suit with a black shirt and of all things sunglasses. He came to the party with four girls. I think maybe he’s a pimp?”

INTERVIEWER: Today, we are interviewing, Jennifer, the young Selkie heroine from V.S. Nelson’s Sekhmet’s Guardians – Book One – ETERNAL LOVERS.

INTERVIEWER: Jennifer, thank you for being with us today.

JENNIFER: Thank you for having me. I will admit, I’m a little nervous. I’m not use to all this popularity.

INTERVIEWER: I think you better get use to it. From what I understand you featured in the entire series.

JENNIFER: So I’ve been told.

INTERVIEWER: So why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself, the series and how you discovered your half Selkie? I'm sure we'd also like to hear how you and Gabriel got to together and all about those hunks who live at the mansion with you...

JENNIFER: Well most of my story is pretty simple. As a child, I didn't know why I was different from the other children I was raised around. My grandmother always told me I was just special and I should keep my abilities hidden from others. We lived pretty simple in the mountains so that wasn’t a big deal; although I will admit I did manage to get myself in trouble quite often. It wasn’t until. I made a trip to Chicago a couple of years ago that my life turned upside down and I found out the truth about my heritage.

INTERVIEWER: I’ve heard so pretty amazing things about you. Is it true you can you can swim as fast as they say?

JENNIFER: I’m not really sure how fast I swim. Alice, my best friend, clocked me at 65 mph.

INTERVIEWER: Wow! What about the other stuff? Is it all true?

JENNIFER: I’m not sure what all you’ve heard.

(Jennifer looks around the room as if she’s looking for something or someone)

JENNIFER: Oh sorry, I thought I heard someone in the hall. You have to understand I’m still learning what I can and can’t do. I’ve always been able to hear animal’s thoughts. And they can hear mine too. I guess that’s a pretty common Selkie trait. As far as the past life stuff, I’m not sure where I got that from. You know, I really don’t like doing that makes me feel like I’m some sort of a peeping Tom. I don’t know where that trait came from. I will show you something that I think is pretty cool.

(Jennifer holds out her hand and I watch as her beautiful manicured fingernails grow in length to what looks like 6 inch razor sharp knife blades. She grins then quickly retracts her hand and her nails return to normal)

JENNIFER: Something my dad taught me.

INTERVIEWER: So when you met Gabriel?

JENNIFER: Oh God, (Jen laughs out loud) I didn’t officially meet him right away. First time I saw him was the night, the British Rock Band, The Immortals were hosting their welcome to the U.S. tour party. I was so afraid of him. Would you believe I actually told him to “fuck off,” the first time I saw him. Oh, I’m sorry am I not allowed to use foul language?

INTERVIEWER: No problem, please continue with your story.

JENNIFER: Anyway, Gabe walked in with four hot looking women. I was immediately taken in by his… well he is quite handsome, anyway, the longer I looked at him the more scared of him I became. I know his size is something that often scares other people, but that wasn’t what scared me. It was the fact that he was touching a part of me that no one ever had. It’s kind of hard to explain but he was touching the inside of my soul.  It literally, scared the dickens out of me. So I ran to the bar to get a drink, then to Raphael, who I didn’t know at the time was his best friend… and wouldn’t you know it, he followed me. I ended up telling Raphael I was being stalked by a pimp. I don’t think that went over too well when he told Gabe what I said.
I don’t want to give all the details of the book away but I think I can tell you it took a while for Gabriel and I to come to terms. I started dreaming about him and because of that I made some really stupid mistakes.
It wasn’t too long after that I met my real father and found out what I am. I also found out I was living in a house filled with alien immortals. There is a whole new world out there most people know nothing about.

INTERVIEWER: So what can you tell us about the others who live at the Lake Michigan Estate?

JENNIFER: OMG where to start? I suppose like most people you want to know about the hunks that hang out there, starting with the Ancients. I jokingly call them my personal Ninja Turtles because of their names but believe me they are nothing like the cartoon characters. They are all quite delectable and if it wasn’t for Gabe…. Guess I better not go there, he might listening to this interview.

(Jennifer reaches over and takes a drink of her Hibiscus tea and tries to hide the smirk on her face and red cheeks.)

JENNIFER: Anyway as I was saying, the Ancients each possess certain… shall we say unusual characteristic, charm and special abilities. A quick synopsis of them are; Raphael is funny, quite handsome and has a fondness for all living things, where Lance, Gabriel’s baby brother, is a blond haired genius. Michael, the resident physician reminds me of Angel, you know the guy who use to be in love with Buffy? Oh yeah, then there is Thomas – suave and sexy, Thomas – what can I say about him – he radiates sex from every pore of his body. Raziel, he looks more your typical warrior hero but is quite the scholar and Ariel, well let’s just say I haven’t quite figured him out yet. Like the others, he’s as handsome as they come but there is something about him I just haven’t put my finger on yet.

INTERVIEWER: Wow, sounds like you’ve got them pegged pretty good.

JENNIFER: Oh there is still so much I don’t know about them but I can tell you this, the next seven or so books in the series will tell the reader everything they want to know about them.

INTERVIEWER: So how many books does Ms. Nelson have planned for the series?

JENNIFER: As far as I know, nine were originally planned but I think she has added a couple of spin offs--historicals to be exact. As the Ancients share more of their story with her, she in turn takes notes then pencils in additional books to be written.

INTERVIEWER: Think we have time for one more question. I know a lot of authors are releasing short stories, some even less than 100 pages. What is the length of the books in Sekhmet’s Guardians and are they only available in e-format?

JENNIFER: I can’t speak for all of them, but I will tell you that book one, Eternal Lovers is close to 500 pages and book two, Eternal Nights is almost as long. I imagine they will all be about the same length. All of V’s books are available in paperback and e-format and are available through most outlets. She even offers signed editions through her website.

INTERVIEWER: Jennifer it’s been fun but I’m afraid our time is up. I really enjoyed having you hear today and hope you will consider coming back soon.

JENNIFER: It’s been fun. I’ll check back later and answer any questions your readers may have for me.

INTERVIEWER: If you’d like to know more about Jennifer and the amazing hunks that hang around their lake estate please pick up a copy of V.S. Nelson’s SEKMET’S GUARDIANS – BOOK ONE – ETERNAL LOVERS, coming to a retailer near you January 15. Her second book in the series, ETERNAL NIGHTS should be released the first of MAY.

V.S. Nelson has always enjoyed reading stories with strong relationships and happy endings so it’s not surprising she found herself writing across the romance genre. Even her commercial fiction, Sins of a Man, the memoirs of a Mafia Hit man, is layered with romantic elements.
Landing in Arizona, after an exciting teaching career, which took her to the Middle East for several years, she lives in Arizona where she spend most of my time making love to her computer while writing, editing or researching, seven to ten hours a day. The days she’s not writing, you will find her with my critique partners at Starbucks, attending or presenting a workshop or at a RWA meeting.
Being a Native American woman and a Scorpio, she’s always had a fondness for history, mythology, the occult, and the unexplained events which have occurred on this world we call home. It was no wonder she found herself writing a paranormal series.
She enjoys hearing from readers, fans and people with similar interests. They are more than welcome to contact her through her website
